The "Tax Exempt Status" Card
(issued by International Humanity House)
Update: Paul Ricci's Challenge to CCRA using the defense as prepared by Daneil Lavigne for International Humantiy House participants is very interesting indeed. To read the details of what happened on November 8th, 2001, click here...
The "Tax Exempt Status" card is now available from The Nousury Network for $169 (13x13) ("usury-bearing" Canadian Funds) or $104 ("usury-bearing" Canadian Funds) and 5 hours of "usury-free" time currency valued at 13 eco$ per hour.
From this fee of $169. an amount of $78 ("usury-bearing" Canadian Funds) is
sent directly to Daniel Lavigne who enters each new carhholder into the database for International Humanity House and issues the
Registration number and $26. is sent directly to the person in British Columbia who now
produces the professional "Tax Exempt Status" card which closely resembles our
the driver's licences issued by our respective provinces. When ordering your "Tax
Exempt Status" card please forward a photo (colour or black and white) of yourself
and a clear copy of your black ink signature on a piece of white paper with your payment.
Remember, use a black pen.
The Nousury Network earns 5 hours of "usury-free" time currency which is
equivaent in value to $65.00 (Canadian Funds) since one hour of "usury-free"
time currency is equivalent to $13.00 ("usury-bearing" Canadian Funds.) If you
have not yet created your own "usury-free" time currency account then The
Nousury Network will accept payment in $65.00 ("usury-bearing" Canadian Funds)
To create your own "usury-free" time currency account follow the instructions at
this URL: www.cyberclass.net/letsbuild.htm
.
Any persons who wish to market the card are invited to express an intent to market the card for part "usury-bearing" Canadian funds and part "usury-free" time currency when they order their card from The Nousury Network.
I am still recommending that those who choose to market the "Tax Exempt Status" card gift a small portion of any earnings and/or tax savings to the person who introduced them to the "Refusetax" mission as engineered by International Humanity House.
When TCN's referrals market the card I recommend that they keep the integrity of the mission by following the model and encouraging their referrals to do likewise. This duplication process will ensure that everyone who is pro-active in the mission will be fairly rewarded for their efforts.
For those who wish to order their "Tax Exempt Status Card" please forward $169 ("usury-bearing" Canadian Funds and/or a combination of "usury-free" time currency) to: The Nousury Network, P.O. Box 9333, Ottawa, Ontario K1G 3V1. The Nousury Network will contact you with details of how and when your card will be delivered.
When presenting the card to be honoured I find it best to ask for a manager before I make my purchases. I carry a copy of the court document T2020-88 with me in case I have to refer to it, though this rarely is the case. I present the card saying: "I am requesting you to honour this "Tax Exempt Status" card for exemption of both PST and GST when I make my purchase at your cash register." This avoids long hassles and waits in line. BUT do remind the clerk that the cards exempts you from both PST and GST because too many clerks have made an error and only exempted me from PST. Even though it is clearly stated on the card, it is very unusual to be exepmt from GST and therefore because of previous conditioning they tend to just record the purchase as being PST exempt and then they have to correct their mistake. This entails calling the manager and causing wasted time for all parties.
Though I have had the court document T2020-88 with few managers have requested to look at it. To date there has been little resistance by merchants about accepting the "Tax Exempt Status" card. I do not argue with those who refuse, I simply post their refusal in the list below. All others are posted as honouring the "Tax Exempt Status" card.
As of this present date the following retail stores have honoured the "Tax Exempt Status" card when presented by myself, Tom-J: Kennedy: The listings in red have declined to accept the "Tax Exempt Status" card. Those of us who are promoting and using the "Tax Exempt Status" card always invite the owners/managers of the businesses who decline to accept the card to fully inform themselves of the mission behind the card. Some owners/managers change their minds after they become aware and decide to accept the card. Until they inform us of their new decision their respective businesses will be listed in red as a decline. Any owner/manager is invited to forward an email to: tom@cyberclass.net to advise us of their change of mind.

* The clerk at the cash register could not get the computer
to accept the
Tax Exempt Status number so he creatively calculated
backwards by
having me pay the $8.97 price on the magazine cover by
listing it as
"general merchandise." He still entered the PST
and GST but on the
price of $7.80 so that the GST at $.55 + the PST at $.62
when added
together totalled $8.97. It amazes me how creative clerks
can be as they
seek ways to honour the card.
*The second clerk - who was listening to our conversation
asked how she

When I showed the card to the clerk at the St. Laurent
office on August 14th she indicated that indeed Hertz
would honour my "tax exempt status." The clerk at
the Airport likwise willingly accepted the card when I returned
the car on August 23rd.

Date of First Refusal: September 5, 2000
Person who refused the card: Sean Burke - The Manager
When I rented the car on September 2, 2000 I presented the card
to the office clerk
and explained that the card exempted me from paying both PST and
GST. He wrote the
number on the contract and indicated that there would be no
problem with Discount honouring
the card when I returned the car. When I returned the car on
September 5, 2000, Sean Burke -
The Manager declined to accept the card. He seemed fearful that
he would be responsible for
the taxes if CCRA challenged the validity of the card. He asked
who he could call in the government
for approval. I told him to call whomever he wished. He decided
not to call anyone and he declined to
honour the card. I passed him this URL and invited him to visit
and read about the card.

Date of Refusal: September 8, 2000
Person who refused the card: Joyce !!
Joyce was the person who first accepted the card on April 14th,
2000 at this very same Staples
store on Ogilie Rd. Though other Staples/Business Depot stores
have been refusing the card today
was the first time that this particular Staples/Business Depot
has refused the card when presented by
myself. Joyce made a statement about Revenue Canada advising
Staples/Business Depot NOT to accept
the card issued by International Humanity House when the clerk
asked her about how to key in the transaction.
The Staples/Business Depot stores are really very inconsistent
with their rules about the card.

On December 3, 2000 I mailed a cheque to Melacom
(minus the PST & GST) with an explanation of
why I was not paying PST & GST. I included a copy
of the Tax Exempt Status card. This was the second
time that I had mailed a cheque to Melacom (minus the
PST & GST). Since Melacom had ignored my first
letter of explanation while Metcom had honoured my
Tax Exempt Status card I explained that I was
terminating my contract with Melacom and moving all
of my long distance business with Metcom. On December,
Friday, December 8th, 2000 Lenny from Melacom
telephoned me and left a message. He explained that there
had been some complications whereby Melacom had
charged me some taxes when apparently they were not
supposed to do so. He explained that Melacom was
agreeing to credit me with the taxes that they had wrongly
charged me for. He was looking to discuss what it
would take for me to come back with Melacom. He asked
me to call him at 1.877.777.6352 to further discuss
the situation. I did not return the call as I am pleased with
Metcom's decision to honour the Tax Exempt Status
card and I have decided to keep all of my long distance
business with Metcom.

Person who accepted the card: The Manager "Joe" *
On March 9, 2001 at approximately 9:00 PM Dave Lindsay and myself went to the Boston Pizza at 1055 St. Laurent Blvd., Ottawa, Ontario. After we had finished eating I presented my Tax Exempt Status card to the waitress. She took the card to show the "Chef Manager" who was in charge. The waitress returned saying that the "Chef Manager" would not accept the card. I asked to speak to the "Chef Manager" - Hanan. She explained that Boston Pizza was no longer accpeting the Tax Exempt Status card issued by International Humanity House. Then Hanan suggested that she could offer me a 10% discount on the food and drink instead of accpeting the Tax Exempt Status card. I declined emphasising that it was not the money BUT the principle of not supporting a government that "participates in plans and preparations that are based on a will and capacity to use nuclear and other weapons of mass murder." I suggested that since I was not willing to pay any taxes that she telephone the manager and/or the police. Hanan called the manager and then she came and asked me to speak to the manager. I talked with the manager on the telephone. I explained why I refused to pay the taxes. The manager explained how CCRA came to his business and intimidated him into agreeing NOT to accept the Tax Exempt status cards. After 10 minutes of discussion I insisted that I was not paying the taxes on the principle espoused on the back of the card. I invited the manager to come to the Boston Pizza and call the police to settle our dispute. Then he asked to speak to the "Chef Manager" again. The "Chef Manager" agreed to accept our payment for the food and drink and she asked for my business card, which I gave to her. I had told the Manager that I would sign the receipt and leave my telephone number so that CCRA could contact me rather than threatening to collect the taxes from Boston Pizza. I paid her the exact amount of the bill $34.55. Then I went to the waitress and asked her for change for a $20 bill so that I could offer her a tip. She gave me the change and I tipped her $5.00 - an amount that was more than the taxes. Dave Lindsay and myself bid them a friendly thank you and good night and departed from Boston Pizza.

Date of first refusal: July 5, 2001
Person who refused the card: no name given
I mailed my payment to Excel Telecommunications (Canada) Inc. on July 5th, 2001 minus the
GST & PST. I included the following letter of explanation.
"As a member of International Humanity house I
am tax exempt - that is exempt from PST and GST. I have enclosed a copy of my tax exempt
status card complete with my Registration numberT2020-88-14341
For your information I have also enclosed a copy of the April 12, 2001 billing from my
previous long distance carrier which clearly shows that they - METCOM - honoured the tax
exempt status card, as neither GST nor PST was added to my bill.
I am fully trusting that Excel Telecommunications
(Canada) Inc. will likewise honour the tax exempt status card as issued by International
Humanity House.
I have been telling many people about the great long distance services offered by Excel
Telecommunications (Canada) Inc. and these people are likewise carrying tax exempt status
cards issued by International Humanity House. Many of us have been using METCOM for long
distance services as METCOM has always honoured our tax exempt status card.
When I assure them that Excel Telecommunications (Canada) Inc. is likewise an honourable company which respects and honours our commitment to the mission of International Humanity House and thereby honours the tax exempt status card (copy enclosed) then you can be assured of thousands of new long distance customers.
If you have any questions contact me by telephone 1.613.746.9702 or email: tom@cyberclass.net
Excel did not respond to this letter nor to a follow
up letter dated August 31st, 2001. In the meantime, I simply subtract the GST and PST from
the monthly bill and make payment for only the long distance service. It is now October
1st, 2001 and I have forwarded payment for my latest bill with the following notice: www.cyberclass.net/exceloct12001.htm
and this letter: www.cyberclass.net/exceletter.htm
On October 31, 2001 I forwarded another Notice to Excel Canada which you can view at this

deduct the GST & PST and pay only for the long distance service which I use.

68. A Greek Restaurant (Eighteenth
Refusal)
Richmond Hill, Ontario
September, 21, 2001
I did not pick up a business card from this restaurant and I have forgotten the
name of the restaurant BUT the story is worthy of sharing. Myself, another IHH card holder
and a third party met at this Greek restaurant for lunch. When I presented the Tax Exempt
Status Card to the waiter and explained that I pay only for the food and drink and I do
NOT pay either PST nor GST, he took the card and went off to communicate with the manager.
The manager came to the table to talk with us while the waiter waited and listened within
hearing distance. After 10 minustes of sharing why by myself and the other IHH card
carrier use the Tax Exempt Status Card, the manager shrugged his
shoulders and repeated that he could not accept the card. Being short of
time, I made a decision to pay the tax this time rather than pursuing the issue. As we
paid the waiter, he explained that he had been listening while we talked with the manager.
He took the card again and re-read the information on the back. Then he looked at us and
said: "I admire your mission. More people in Canada should take a stand like you
do." I left him my business card and told him that he could do just that. I have not
heard from him since.

The Bell Canada story goes back to the early summer of 2000 when I first enclosed a copy
of my Tax Exempt Status Card with my bill payments wherein I deducted the PST & GST. I
provided an explanation and website referrals. I am paying Bell Canada for local service
for two telephones and for a toll free number. I always send in the payments in separate
envelopes so that there is a greater chance of more than one person reading the
information. During the past year, someone from the Bell Canada office in Sault Ste. Marie
has called and left messages on three occasions. These messages can be summarized by
saying that they always regretted that Bell Canada could NOT honour the Tax Exempt Status
Card and that I would have to pay the GST & PST.
On a sunny day in ealry June 2001, I was at home when a person from Bell Canada called again. This was the first time that I had someone connect with me. I politiely lisened to a similar message saying that Bell Canada could not accept the card and that I would have to pay the PST & GST. I explained why I was not going to pay the PST & GST. Then I asked for a supervisior. Apparently no one is the capacity of supervisor was available at that time. Then I explained to the person that I was collecting evidnece to prepare for an eventual court challenge with Bell Canada and that I would need a written letter from Bell Canada, signed by a person in a supervisory position, stating the reasons why they could not honour the Tax Exempt Status Card. Then I hung up the phone.
To read the letter from Bell Canada dated June 18th, 2001 click here. Note that there is NO signature, only Bell Canada and a secretary's initials "ks"
I responded with a Letter To Bell Canada on July 5th, 2001. To read that letter click here. Bell Canada has not responded to my letter of July 5th, 2001. I continue to deduct the cumulative monthly GST & PST and I always pay for the service which I consume. As of this date, November 10th, 2001, the amount of cumulated GST & PST not paid on my three Bell Canada bills is $270.
I forward an accompanying letter to Bell Canada with every monthly bill payment. The October 31st, 2001 letter can be read by clicking here.
Every month I enclose an explanation for the record and I often add additional hand written notes. To view a monthly explanation and read my notes for October 31, 2001 click here.
Thanks to Michel Trottier for preparing an initial generic document to be presented to any business by anyone who carries a Tax Exempt Status Card. I have adapted it and I submit it to Bell Canada on a monthly basis. Read it by clicking here.
As of this date, April 8th, 2002, Bell Canada has not yet cut off my long distance service and I have not paid any PST nor GST. The outstanding amount remains on my monthly bill and I always deduct the GST and PST and pay only for the service which I use.

Date first refused: April 8th, 2002
Person who refused the card: Paul - Business
Manager (he wouldn't give his last name on the telephone)
I placed an advertisement in The March 15th, 2002 issue of the Link Publication at Concordia University. The advertisement was to promote a meeting at Concordia on March 23rd, 2002 where myself, John C. 'The Engineer' Turmel and Guylaine Saint-Pierre Lanctot were talking about avoiding 'usury' by using our own 'usuryfree' time currency.
When I received the bill I mailed a cheque
on April 4th, 2002 in the amount of $47.00 to cover the cost of the advertising
service. I deducted the PST and GST and included documentation to explain why I
do NOT pay GST and/or PST. On Monday, Paul (he wouldn't give his last name) -
the Business Manager for The Link Publications Society Inc. telephoned me re:
the issue of unpaid PST and GST. Details of our conversation is posted at this
URL:
www.cyberclass.net/linkltr.htm
With previous knowledge that Concordia students had already demonstrated
that they were ready and willing to be supportive of activism that exposes The
New World Order I wrongfully assumed that the students who are in charge of The
Link weekly publication would be very supportive of the mission to stop
supporting the insanity of war. But not so!! They too are trapped by fear of
losing their non-profit status if they do not keep supporting the New World
Order war machine and all of the related insanity. Too bad - hopefully other
university publications will be more supportive of the Detax/Untax/Refusetax
Movement.

This list to be continued ......
As of this date, October 8th, 2002 my experience using the
"Tax Exempt Status" card has
been an exciting adventure indeed. There is much support from the
business community
in general. Business owners who see the card are amazed when they hear
of the grassroots
"TaxRefusal" Movement. I expect that every small and medium
sized business owner will
be asking to be listed in a Directory that can be available to everyone
who is carrying a
"Tax Exempt Status" card. Note that some businesses choose to
anonymously honour the
card by discounting the price so that it includes the GST & PST at
the advertised price.
Very creative people indeed. Participants with International Humanity
house are invited to
spend their money at those businesses which honour the card and avoid those businesses
which have REFUSED the card, until they inform themselves that they ought to be following
the "Rule of Law" and honouring the cards.
Dave Lindsay and myself visited some people from the area around
Milford, New Hampshire
during the week of August 14th 'till August 17th, 2000. We talked about
the "Tax Exempt Status" card
and how we are using it in Canada. There definitely was some interest
in discussing how they could
use the card in the state of New Hampshire. I suggested that I would
invite Daniel Lavigne to come
with me to New Hampshire at a future date and explain how they could
indeed adapt the card to
exempt people in New Hampshire from the tax on food as there is no
sales tax in New Hampshire.
Many, many business owners continue to comment that they are fed up
with taxes. Many business
owners complain about being offered a mere pittance for their work on
preparing tax records for the
various levels of government. Because they are paid so little for their
"collection work" some have
even threatened to file suit against the government for involving them
in "slave labour."
Michael Adams, the Sales Manager at Staples/Business
Depot, at 403 Bank St. Ottawa,
Ontario advised me on June 13th that he had received a fax from
the head office in Toronto
advising him to be careful when accepting Tax Exempt Status
cards. Though Michael told me
this he did accept the card again - one more time..... As of the
first week of July 2000,
Staples/Business Depot has been refusing to
accept the Tax Exempt Status card from
myself and from other card carriers in the Ottawa area. On July
31st, 2000 I again asked for
Michael Adams when I entered Staples/Business Depot.
I explained to him that Michael
Megma's card had been accepted at a Staples/Business
Depot in Toronto on July 26th. He
answered that the manager there had made a mistake and that he
would not accept the card
for my purchase. Many other Staples/Business Depot retail
stores continue to honour the
card.
Is is interesting indeed that the "Tax Exempt
Status" card was accepted at the Staples/Business
Depot on Ogilvy Rd. in Gloucester and at the Staples/Business
Depot store at 2210 Bank St.
and the Staples/Business Depot on Merivale Rd. after having been
refused at the other Bank St.
store.
Other participants with International Humanity House are
invited to forward businesses which have
honoured their respective "Tax Exempt Status" cards and
I will add them to my growing database of
businesses which are choosing to honour the cards.
